Children's Weight

A growing number of children in the borough are overweight or obese which means they'll have more chance of developing an illness as they get older.

The local healthy weight team offers support and advice to families to make sure their children have a healthy weight.  The team run groups and clinics designed to give children the opportunity to change their approach to eating and become more active.  Clinics are held around the borough and are run by dietitians who specialise in working with younger people.

The team also hold a range of structured programmes for adults and children to help the whole family to reach their targets around a healthy lifestyle.

MEND- Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it!

The MEND (Miind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do it!) Programme is a fun course for families with children aged 7 to 13 whose weight is above the healthy range for their age and height. It helps create fitter, healthier, happy families through a variety of games, education sessions and activities.  It runs twice a week after school and at weekends in two-hour sessions over 10 weeks. MEND helps children and families manage their weight better and lead healthier lives.

Fit4Life

This fun filled one day event is designed as a follow on from MEND.  Fit4Life is held during school holidays and gives children the opportunity to take part in organised physical activity sessions with a nutrition skills workshop.  The children prepare their own lunch under supervision to promote healthy eating and develop cooking skills. PANDA – Pennine Action for Nursery kids Diet and Activity

A fun and interactive six week course for you and your children aged under 5.  The course looks at healthy eating, fussy eating, positive parenting techniques, oral health, rewards and treats, recipe ideas and budgeting techniques.  For more information, please contact the Healthy Weight team on 01706 901763.
